red bird mission 5

Red Bird Mission and Clinic have been providing ministries in this region of the Appalachian Mountains since 1921. Today the need remains critical in this isolated, rural distressed area.  Chronic poverty, lack of jobs, poor housing, and rugged mountainous terrain provide obstacles to a fuller life for the residents of this area.  Red Bird Mission strives to meet these needs through ministry in five areas:  Education, Health and Wellness, Community Outreach, Economic Opportunity, and Community Housing Improvement.

The 2017 mission trip to Beverly, Kentucky is set for September 15 – 25, 2017.

A Message from the Red Bird Mission Team:

“For it is in giving that we receive.” Francis of Assisi

I think you would find all Red Bird volunteers would attest to this truth. After a full day of often very warm and tiring work, we return with a sense of satisfaction from helping someone who really needs our help; a sense of in some small way improving their life/lives. It’s a good feeling: one that has kept many volunteers returning year after year after year.

We are excited to be nearing our trip, being at the site the week of September 17-23. We’ve let them know our skill set (5 with carpentry skills and a gofer: we can’t all be skilled!), and are now waiting to hear our assignment. It’s possible we’ll be working at the mission site this year, as they have a number of projects to make a building usable year round and another accessible by ramp. We’re ready for wherever they need us.

Thank you to all of you who have supported us through our bake sales, luncheon and white elephant sale, to make this trip possible. We would appreciate continued support through your prayers, as we make our Kentucky trip.
